Hello,

I have been having a bunch of issues with UT99 on my PC

the specs are
P4 2.8ghz (northwood 533mhz FSB)
2gb PC3200 (2x 1gb sticks in dual channel mode)
500gb SATA HDD
Geforce 6800 GT AGP 8x

now my issues have been weird with UT99.

crashes (UT will just go away like i quit the game without any error pop-ups or anything)
when i quit the game the music and sounds still play for like 30 seconds or longer (and the CPU remains pegged until the sounds stops)
when i switch between full screen mode and windowed mode (like when you set the advanced preferences) it takes forever to switch
The Page file usage jumps from a normal 500mb to over 1.5gb and when i quit the PF stays that high until i reboot.

now the weird thing is that if i disable my Geforce card drivers and use the intel extreme 2 GFX (I865G chipset) the game runs flawless (altho its not as fast as what the 6800 GT is, a constant 84FPS vs i865G 30 - 60FPS) but i get no issues like i do above when i am running the Geforce.

what i am thinking is that the Geforce drivers have major issues with this game (this is the only game that does this all my other games play great). its the only explanation i can think of is that its a driver related issue.

i am wondering what (older) Geforce driver i should try to see if it will solve this issue. right now i am using the Direct3d for UT99 for the rendering, should i try to use openGL or try and find a glide wrapper to use the glide API.

I have contacted Nvidia about the issue (i am not holding my breath)

i am using the 436 version of UT, should i try the 451 patch or is there other patches for this game.

Frank

------------------------------------------------EDIT------------------------------------------------

I tried playing in openGL and most of the issues are gone, but i cant stand the 60hz flicker. i wonder whats wrong with Nvidias drivers when used in Directx in UT99 that causes all of those issues.

when using openGL the page file stays at normal levels, the game quits the instant i select quit switching between full screen and windowed mode happens instantly.

ONE thing that I know is do NOT use the 451 patch - 436 is just fine for PLAYing UT, and is what you SHOULD be using to PLAY UT.
451 offers NO advantage for UT99 players - Just for Servers.
IF you run a UT99 Game Server, than you MAY use the 451 patch for your SERVER install, but it is not necessary.
Servers run just fine on 436 though and version 451 is totally NOT needed at all!

The rest of those maladies will have to wait for Hook and the Gang!

OK, JackO is correct on the part HE tackled for you.
Now for the MEAN parts!
UT has always had some weird "glitches"!
It sometimes does just "fold up" for no apparent reason(s).
BUT...
I have my "feelers" out right now and I hope to soon have a good course of action for you to do to solve all or most of these problems.
I have seen most of these problems being discussed even lately and will return with some answers I am confident!
*Hang in there!*
*Base is Covered!*

Stay Tuned!

OK here is ONE response to a "feeler" I put out!
(There WILL be MORE to come so wait for it ALL) - Hook

I use Direct3d with an Nvidia 9800 GT and I have no issues at all.
But I think you should try using the OpenGL because it also works fine for me.
Everything runs smooth and without any issue's or sound playing if you quit.

I got to say that I had the issue about the sound and slow minimizing/full screen when I had the ATI Radeon 2400 Pro as graphic card.
When I changed it to the Nvidia it worked fine.

I don't think it has anything to do with the patch 436/451 but you can try it to be sure.

There are some SPECIAL instructions for going to OpenGL - I will get IF you need! - Hook
Stay with version 436! - The Guy (above) runs UT version 436 himself. - Hook

Thanks allot guys.

i could not post back due to working a few extra hours.

but i continued to search, it seems that someone had made updated DirectX and openGL render support for UT99. http://www.cwdohnal.com/utglr/

the patch that make UT99 use the DirectX 9 render instead of the original DirectX render (that is if you select it when your detecting your video card)

even tho that using UT99's orignal openGL render fixed all the issues i still applied the openGL render update.

but doing that to the DirectX 9 render it seems to have fixed the issues i was having. but the issues still remain if i use the orignal DirectX render.

i wonder if thats what Hermskii was going to tell me to do.

The only downside to this is that the DirectX 9 render wont work with UnrealED, i don't know about the openGL update with UnrealED though.

That is a Good Question!

You MAY even try re-installing UT - maybe Separately along side the current installation and see if that helps.
Try the new install (version 436) to see if it does better than the old install.
Just a thought.

Hello,
Your computer seems well enough to handle UT99.
can you tell me the method you took to uninstall your drivers?
