Hook’s UT Place (HUTP) – Map Reviews!
We are now adding UT Map Reviews to our List of Features here at HUTP!
We will review maps Submitted by YOU, the public, in our Map Review forum.
We will review maps Asked for by YOU, the public, in our Map Review forum.
Please provide a URL to download the map from if it is Not Attached to your Submission.
UT Map Reviews will be done As Time Permits.
Overall Scores will be updated As Time Permits and as new user scores come in.
HUTP Map Review Schema by Hook
This UT Map Review Schema is virtually identical to the old NaliCity3’s (aka NaliCity / Beyond Unreal) map review schema; except that HUTP’s Map Reviewers have MUCH MORE Integrity than the old NaliCity3 did, for sure!!!
Some (but not all) of their reviewers at NaliCity used to just make fun of maps, even GOOD Maps, giving them a low score, just so they (the reviewers) could get a few laughs.
Unlike NaliCity / BeyondUnreal, we at HUTP do not think it was or is funny!
UT Mappers put a lot of work into these maps and we at HUTP KNOW this!
This is not to say that we cannot have some fun in our reviews though.
NaliCity’s review schema was OK though and for a number of years WAS a good standard (until some Clown Reviewers there abused it), so we at HUTP have decided to use the same Map Review Scoring System (schema) here.
Review scores are the sum of 4 categories at HUTP.
The first 3 are assigned by the HUTP Reviewer for a score of 0 through 9.
The fourth, and final determinant, is assigned by the public through the User Comment feature using Replies.
The HUTP (0-9 points) Maps are broken down into 3 primary categories that are scored by the HUTP Reviewer:
* AWE (0-3 points)
Visual effects accomplished with Texturing, Lighting and Architectural Theme. First impressions are lasting impressions, and that MAY be reflected here.
* BUILD (0-3 points)
Sound, Brush-work, Zoning, simple AI, Tele-ports, Triggers and Movers are all examined. BSP errors, HOMs and other defects will weigh against this score.
* CAST (0-3 points)
Gameplay and Playability (FPS) factor strong. Includes GameType specific AI, Flow and Item placement. Most of all, does the map fulfill its intended purpose?
* User Score (-1/0/+1 points)
Or the "FUN FACTOR".
HUTP Users, not HUTP Reviewers, determine the final points given.
The User rating entered with comments (Replies) will directly affect the overall score:
User Rating submitted by a User is from
0-10 points!
An averaged User rating higher than the HUTP Reviewer score will result in the Overall score being shifted by +1, likewise, an averaged User rating lower than the HUTP Reviewer score results a -1 shift. No User rating, or an averaged User rating equal to the HUTP Reviewer score, will have no effect on the review score.
Example Score:
Reviewer gives score of …
Awe 2 + Build 2 + Cast 1 = 5
User Scores …
UTJohnny 8 + Killerboy 7 + NaliClown 3 = 18
Averaged 8+7+3=18 or 18 divided by 3 comments = 6
User Averaged Points is higher than HUTP Reviewer points so we add 1 point to Overall Score.
Overall Score now = 6
Summary:
Overall scores cannot drop below 0 or go higher than 10.
Maps that have no screenshot or require non-retail package(s) MAY result in a ZERO or lower score.
