It's time to bring everything together at last, put some rumours to bed, but also bring some more into the fray! This thread will cover the basic details (Storyline, graphics, basic game info etc) of the upcoming Unreal Tournament III.
Title: Unreal Tournament III
Developer: Epic Games
Pulbisher: Midway Games
Release Dates: September 3rd (USA), September 28th (Europe) (Some sites seem to believe its January 2008)
Platforms: Playstation 3, X-Box 360, PC
Basic Premise:
Unreal Tournament III is set 50 years after the founding of the original tournaments, originally set up by Liandri to control violent outbreaks among deep-space mining personnel, ever growing in its savagry and popularity, but then the war came. Necris forces invade Terran in what is described as a "corporate war" between Necris and the Izanagi corporation. This war has robbed you of everything you hold dear. Your friends, your family, your entire clan obliterated at the hands of the vile Necris. All you have left is vengence, and the they will pay a heavy price for their malice. They have destroyed all that is yours, now you must annihilate what is theirs.
New Features:
UT3 will incorporate new features, but will keep what made UT99 great. Graphically UT3 will be vastly superior to previous installments, utilising their third generation engine, sources indicating a new lighting system that can make flat surfaces appear more rugged and featured. At this point I shan't be going into too much detail about graphics, but more about gameplay.
In terms of AI, what made UT99 a huge hit both offline and online, UT3 is set to feature a much improved bot AI system. Bots will report, order and taunt much as before but the team radio is set to have a lot more context. For instance, the rather ambiguous "Incoming!"/"Enemy Spotted!" radio message sent by bots will indicate more as to the volume of the attack (i.e. just how many very angry men with guns are bearing down on your base).
Online is where Epic is putting the meat of the new features. As before games will be run off the master server, but before entering games you can view player rankings and ratings, clan pages and take advantage of match-making features (so you don't end up in unfair fights with people who play every second of their existence). All this from in-game without need of third-party utilities and programs.
The mainstay of feature coverage will be in the accompanying threads. You can contribute to these reference threads in the provided "feedback" threads (for this one it will be "HUTP: UT3 General Information member contribution"). This is mainly to keep track of information sources and to keep this page as close to truth as is possible at this stage of develpment. Once your contribution is confirmed I'll add it to this post ASAP
